Trapp River Golf Course

by admin on April 4, 2010

The greater Wausau, Wisconsin area has its share of golf courses, 6-9 depending on how far you want to drive. Seeing how the Wausau residence follows the Wisconsin River and Lake Wausau several courses fall within the stretch and are considered part of the Wausau area. One course in particular is the Trapp River Golf Course.

The 18-hole Trapp River Golf Course gets its name from the Trapp River that runs through out the course. This golfing facility tucked into the countryside northeast of Wausau, Wisconsin on Country Road WW in the rolling hills and valleys of north central Wisconsin. Designed by “Farmer” Sloan, (Yes the farmer that originally owned the land) the Trapp River golf course opened to the public in 1962.

Featuring a total of 6,335 yards of golf from the longest tees, the course allows for a legit par of 72. The USGA has the course rating as a 69.3 and it has its slope rating at 116. The rates for 18 holes of golf run from $19.00 during the week to $23.00 on weekends. Senior, Junior, and league discounts are also available.

The golf course offers a full line of services and amenities for all your golf needs. There’s a 12 station driving range, full club house with bar and grill, and beverage cart running on the course at all times. Club and cart rentals are available also.

The Trapp River Golf Course also has available Buck’s Pro Shop on site. Buck Welsh, the current Head Golf Pro and Golf Coach at Wausau East High School, has been a PGA Member since December, 1984. Buck has been teaching golf for over 20 years now.

The Trapp River Golf Course offers 18 holes with a mixture of hazards in play on every hole. Sand, trees, water, grassy fields and of course the Trapp River are there to compose you think about every shot before hitting the ball.

General Manager Steve Malinowski is on site to make sure that the course is maintained to the highest standards, which isn’t easy in north central Wisconsin. Winters bring killing cold and ice damage, while the summers bring about drought like conditions. Maintaining a proper course balance without jeopardizing the playing conditions is a number one priority.

The one thing that really stands out on the course is the nature that surrounds you at all times. The Trapp River Golf Course isn’t lined with houses or gated communities. Deer race free around the course and when summer rolls around they’re more visible than ever. The excessive amount of mosquitoes in the woods tends to drive them to the open. It isn’t uncommon to suspend play while waiting for a doe and her spotted fawns to positive the way.
